Action "Tree Day" – plant your future”
The campaign for the March action for tree planting and foresting of Macedonian bare areas began on February.2 in Prilep, as one of the cities with the most successfully conducted actions concerning "Tree day”, and finished on March 1st in Ohrid.
In the celebration on the behalf of the occasion Day of the tree- Plant Your Future, the Initiative council presented plaques "Leader of green future” for devotion to the previous actions to Karolina Goceva, Euro ambassador Ervan Fuere, marketing agency “New moment” and Agency of Rural Regional Cooperation, acknowledgement which will be given every year for special devotion and contribution to the action. Special diplomas were also given to all who supported the action: media entertainers, athletes, and sports workers and individuals who supported and assisted in this humanitarian ecological action.
The spring foresting was held on March.14.2009 at very bad weather conditions. The activity was the same as the first two actions. The citizens of the Republic of Macedonia participated in foresting in great number despite the cold weather and the strong wind. The coordinator of the action was the Initiative Council “Day of the Tree”, and the planting material was provided by the public enterprise Makedonski sumi whose employees participated in expert supervising of the foresting. The students of the Faculty of forestry in Skopje took part as well as pupils from the elementary and high schools, entertainers and all nature fans to whom the wind was not the obstacle for planting their tree for the future.
The Coordinator of the Initiative Council “Tree day” Boris Trajanov is very satisfied with the outcome from the action despite the bad weather on the day of the foresting March.14.2009. He said: “Lots of people came to plant a tree, and with every other action we witness that people’s environmental awareness is becoming bigger and bigger. If in the previous actions about 10 % of the population was present, our intention was for it not to be less than 15 to 20%, and why not even more. Besides that, we insisted institutions to be more organized and to provide better transportation to inaccessible places which were to be forested”. During the spring foresting 5 million seedlings were planted, and the employees from the public enterprise Makedonski sumi also planted another planned 5 million planting material in the form of seeds. "I think that with greater assistance from the forestry experts, university professors and with the permanent monitoring of growing and development, the trees range will become greater, and we will be closer to our aim- green Macedonia” stated Mr.Trajanov.
There were representatives by the Ministry of internal affairs, quick aid, ZELS, Ministry of environment, Center of crisis operation at every foresting place, and the Ministry of transportation provided buses which were circulating at every two hours to and from the foresting places.
