Action „Tree day" – plant your future for the fifth time
More than 7.5 million planting material was planted at about 100 locations throughout Macedonia within the fifth action „Day of tree- plant your future” which has the regional character for the first time, and was realized under the motto: ”We grow together” realized on March 30.2010.
Though symbolically, the action becomes regional. This idea was initiated by Macedonia at the Conference for the Climate Changes in Copenhagen and it was accepted as a regional project by all the region countries. After the catastrophic fires which raged in forests in Macedonia in 2007 there came this noble idea for foresting of not only the areas that suffered in fires but also some other barren soils. This is one serious potential for the future, for ours and for the health of our future generations and for increasing awareness of the young people and of others for the importance of the environment protection and its renewal. The tree planting action became a tradition by which Macedonia will be recognizable in the region and in Europe. The action “Day of the tree” has an essential importance for Macedonian image in the world because it demonstrated high ability to make something which is not only human, but also ecologically essential and necessary in the world.
The regional volumes of action were manifested in the form of planting trees by the mayors of the bordering municipalities of Macedonia and from the neighboring countries. Decorative, deciduous, evergreen planting materials at the border space were planted by the representatives of the Macedonian border policemen and customs officials and their colleagues from the neighboring country. In the previous four actions about eight thousand hectares were planted with 20 million planting material.
The first action was conducted on March 12.2008 when two million trees were planted. On October.28.2008 the second planting was organized with six million planting material, on March 14.2009 five million trees were planted, and on November.19, last year 7.5 million. The public enterprise “Makedonski sumi” supports this action from the beginning by providing expert aid and planting material of cypress, European ash and black locust and pine tree for the action which are products from their own tree nurseries. The employees from the public enterprise Makedonski sumi had justified the motto “creators of greenery” with their efforts in the process of the environment greening which does not begin with planting but with production of planting material. The proper preparation of planting regions and expert aid during planting, make this action expertly controlled, and the fact that they follow further planting material development, the employees of the public enterprise Makedonski sumi are the ones who are responsible for greener future and planet earth.
